KARACHI: PMDC issues new list of recognized institutions

KARACHI, June 18: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council has asked the Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry to stop admitting students to its MBBS classes.
The college will be allowed to start admitting students once it removes deficiencies in this area.
According to a PMDC notification, the Altamash College of Dental Medicine and Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial College of Dentistry have been recognized provisionally.
The Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial College of Dentistry has been allowed to admit 50 BDS students a year while the Baqai Dental College has been allowed to admit only 25 BDS students every year.
According to the notification, 15 institutions of Sindh are recognized by the PMDC.
The names of the recognised institutions in the private sector are: the Aga Khan University Medical College; the Baqai Medical College and the Baqai Dental College (provisionally recognized); Fatima Dental College (provisionally recognized), five students allowed; Faculty of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, Isra University (provisionally recognized); Hamdard College of Medicine and Dentistry (provisionally recognized), new admissions in MBBS stopped, allowed to admit 25 students in BDS; Jinnah Medical and Dental College (provisionally recognized); Dental Section, Jinnah Medical and Dental College (provisionally recognized), allowed to admit 25 students in BDS; Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls (provisionally recognized); Ziauddin University (provisionally recognized); Liaquat Ali Khan College of Dentistry (provisionally recognized), allowed to admit 50 BDS students; and, Altamash College of Dental Medicine (provisionally recognized).
The names of the recognized government institutions are: Chandka Medical College; DMC; KMDC (provisionally recognized); Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences; Dental College Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and the People’s Medical College for Girls.
