LAHORE, June 17: Defending champions Wapda and last year’s runners-up New Khan again entered the finals of the sixth All-Pakistan Ameer Abdullah Khan Rokri memorial ranking badminton on Tuesday.
Wapda defeated Railways 3-0.
International Wajid Ali proved too good for Mushtaq 15-7, 15-6 to give Wapda 1-0 lead.
Aamir Islam and Tahir Ishaq doubled the lead when they toppled duo Akhtar and Naveed after facing a good fight 17-14, 15-13.
Waqas sealed the fate of the match when he outclassed Imran Laeeq 15-2, 15-2.
Earlier, New Khan defeated Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL) also 3-0 late on Monday evening to qualify for the final.
Shabbar Hussain faced no difficulty to oust Akram Masih 17- 15, 15-4. New Khan surged 2-0 ahead when Nauman and Rizwan toppled Ashraf-Akram easily 15-6,15-4. Omar Zeeshan completed the win brushing aside Rizwan Azam in the last match 15-6, 15-4.
In the ladies’ team event finals, Wapda lifted the title beating Punjab 3-0.
Wapda’s Asma Butt, who is also the national champion thrashed Aneeka 11-3, 11-4 to win the first singles. Saadia and Shazia maintained the winning spree of Wapda when they fought hard to win the doubles against Aneeka and Shahnaz 15-5, 11-15, 15-12. Uzma Butt showed high class to muster an easy win against Saleema 11-1, 11-1 to guide Wapda complete the win.
The men’s singles competition also started. All winners earned victories in straight two set.
