FAISALABAD, June 17: The Gulberg police claimed on Tuesday to have registered cases against 22 people who allegedly had forged registration documents of their motorcycles.

Special teams of the Gulberg circle, headed by ASP Muhammad Idrees, raided the local motorcycle market a few months ago and seized hundreds of two-wheelers on suspicion.

The police sent 70 motorcycles to forensic laboratories in Lahore for the checking of registration, engine and chassis numbers of the vehicles. The laboratory testified that the numbers of 22 motorcycles had been forged by their owners. The police had registered cases against the owners of those vehicles and started investigation.

When contacted, Gulberg SHO Rahman Qadir said the police were in search of the gang.

DEATH IN CUSTODY: The Batala Colony police claimed on Tuesday that the man who was said to be killed by police in custody had met a natural death.

According to reports, some people caught Muhammad Shahid lifting a bicycle and informed the Rescue-15 police.

Eye-witnesses told this correspondent that the team took him to the police station and tortured him to death. The police immediately took him to hospital where doctors refused to admit him.

At 4:30pm, the police shifted the body to the DHQ hospital, claiming to have found it from a park.

When contacted, muharrar Muhammad Akbar said Shahid’s heirs were not willing to initiate proceedings and had signed a note, claiming that he (Shahid) had died a natural death. He claimed that his family didn’t agree to even get his postmortem conducted at the DHQ hospital.
