Published June 18, 2003

KARACHI, June 17: Apropos of a news item published in Dawn, on June 15, Sindh Finance Minister Syed Sardar Ahmed has contradicted the remarks of the leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, that he and Shoaib Bukhari kept mum over the Thal canal issue at the meetings of the Executive Committee of National Economic Council and the Council of Common Interests.

In a clarification issued here, Mr Ahmed said that neither the CCI meeting was held nor attended by him or Mr Bukhari whereas at the ECNEC meeting, he had raised the issue by reminding the meeting that the Thal Canal project was in contravention of the 1991 Water Accord.
