QUETTA, June 17: Participants of a seminar stressed collective efforts against sectarianism to create awareness and frustrate the designs of conspirators who wanted to divide the society on the basis of sects.
The seminar “Mutual consultation to combat terrorism and sectarianism” was organized by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, Balochistan chapter, and participated by representatives of political and religious groups, lawyers, human rights activists and provincial parliamentarians.
Representatives of the political and religious parties condemned the sectarian killings.
Abdul Matin Akundzada of the Jamaat-i-Islami spoke high of the Mujahideen for dismembering Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, but Raziq Bugti, acting chief of the National Awami Party, said that it paved way for American hegemony in the world.
Allama Mehdi Najfi of Tehrik-i-Jafaria held Ziaul Haq responsible for dividing the nation on sectarian basis in order to weaken the democratic forces, saying that the religious intolerance generated by his government was to also encouraged by the present rulers while referring to Azam Tariq sitting in the parliament.
Amanullah Kanrani, president of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association, Amanullah advocate of NAP and Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal of PMAP accused Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) of fanning religious hatred in the society.
PML-Q MPA Rahila Durrani condemned those elements who had always criticized government on every issue but never improved their attitude to bring positive changes in the society.
Javed Ahmed of the PPP said that undemocratic forces were the root cause of disturbances in the society and to remain in power were creating chaos amongst the people.
Samina Saeed reminded the participants that when they (the participants of the seminar) could not tolerate each other then how could they ask other to show tolerance.
The participants adopted a unanimous resolution stressing that it was the responsibility of Ulema, politicians, human rights activists, lawyers, NGOs, students and citizens to combat terrorism and sectarianism with a spirit to live and let others live.
The participants vowed to collectively fight sectarianism and create awareness amongst the people of all sects and faiths to frustrate the designs of conspirators who wanted to divide the society on sectarian basis.
