Junior coach confident of overcoming goal draught

KARACHI, June 16: Pakistan junior team coach Asif Bajwa Monday expressed confidence that the team’s forward line will deliver the goods for the upcoming tour of Europe starting next month.

“We have got strong deep defence and half line but are looking ahead to make forwards to be more productive”, he said in an interviews.

“With rigorous European tour boys will get maximum exposure against top teams and it will make stronger mentally”, he said.

He said after testing several boys, the team management got few newcomers in the side which he hoped would served well.

Bajwa said some boys have shown improvement but they must show understanding and natural scoring power to strengthened the forwardline.

“Selection committee will watch them during the trials and waiting to see whether they get the selectors nod or not”, Bajwa said.

“We are looking to raise strong team for next year’s Asiac Junior Cup with an eye on 2005 Junior World Cup in Holland. Asia Cup will serve as qualifying rounds for Junior World Cup”, he said.

1992 Barcelona Olympian Asif Bajwa said out of 61 attending ongoing junior team camp, they boys will be shortlisted to 45 on Tuesday.

National selection committee will meet here on June 27 to see the boys in action during the two-day trials before finalizing a 20-member Pakistan junior squad for trip to Spain, Netherlands, Poland and probably England.—APP
