KARACHI, June 16: Dynamo comprising Mushtaq Mahmood, Shameem Yousuf, Javid Rehman, Muhammed Zubari and Hasan Askari netted 108 Victory Points (VPs) to win weekly swiss bridge chamnpionship at Aslam Memorial Hall on Sunday.
Dynamo maintained an unbeaten run to win the weekly championship 15 teams contest organized by Karachi Bridge Association.
Starting their journey to the top, Dynamo first defeated Baber 21-9, Shahab by the same margin in the fourth round, trounced MAQ 24-6 and in the last downed Jamal 23-7.
MAQ collected 99 VPs for second spot, winning four matches. They first defeated Bhurgari 24-6, then registered a clean sweep against ACES 25-5, defeated Immad 19-11, but lost fourth round against dynamo 6-24 and ended their outing with a resounding 25-5 victory over Nadeem 25-5. F.A. Naeem, Maqbool, Mehmood Siddiqui and Ghulam Akber played for MAQ.
There was a tie between Jamal and Baber for the third position, both the teams scored 88 VPs.
However, tie was broken in favour of Jamal since they defeated Baber 21-9 in the third round. Jamal had earlier defeated Raees 24-6, Baber 21-9 and Four Bidders 25- 5. M.G.Siddiqui led the team comprising S.P. Jamal, Taj Reza, Chaudhry Sharif and Asghar Naqvi.
In the pairs contest, 34 pairs were placed in two houses equally. In the Red House S.M. Ozair-Azher Hasan scored 63 Match points to win the contest. Afzal Shaikh Ghaffar Cochinwala finished second just a shade below with 62.5 match followed by Abdul Khaliq and Nasir Reza 60 Match points.
Rashid Shamsi-Zafar Reza put up an excellent performance winning the event from Green House with a score of 71.16 MPs, followed by Shahab Saeed- Naseer Ahmed put up an excellent performance winning the event from Green House with a score of 68.25 MPs, followed by Rashid Shamsi Zafar Reza 61 Match points. M.G. Siddiqui-S.P. Jamal finished third 61.75 Mps.
In the meantime the mid-week pair event will be held at Karachi Gymkhana from Tuesday at 6.00 p.m. All the bridge players are invited.
KG summer bridge tournament will be held from June 20.—APP
