MIRPURKHAS, June 16: The growers, who get their water supply from the Mirpur distributary, held a demonstration outside the press club on Monday in protest against the acute water shortage.

They were led by the chairman, Farmers Organization, Abdul Aziz Mari, its secretary, Khuda Bux Panhwar, and Juma Khan Panhwar.

Later, the protesters went to the office of the director, Nara Canal, Area Water Board, and held a protest demonstration demanding that water be supplied to their distributary. They raised slogans against the director and demanded his replacement.

Talking to newsmen, the protesters said that the Mirpur distributary was closed recently whereas the irrigation minister had put an end to the rotation programme in Sindh.

They said that they were being deprived of drinking water and their cultivated cotton crops were being damaged.

GROWERS: The growers of Naukot minor have announced to block the Naokot-Mirpurkhas road on June 18 to protest against the registration of false cases of water theft against a landlord, Taj Mohammad Leghari, and his son, Qurban Leghari, by the irrigation officials.
