Plea to halt work on Thal canal

DADU, June 16: The activists of the Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party staged a demonstration on Sunday outside the Johi press club and demanded stoppage of work on the greater Thal canal.

They were led by local STPP leaders Mehboob Babar and Younus Solangi. Speaking on the occasion, Mehboob Babar said the establishment had already stopped Sindh water, affecting the agricultural production of the province.

He said now it was trying to destroy farmlands of the region by constructing the greater Thal canal. He vowed to resist the construction of the canal.

CLASH: Four people, including a woman, were injured in a clash between two groups of Legharis in village Garahi, Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka on Sunday.

The injured — Ms Zarina, Shahid Ali, Anwar Ali and Ehsan — were admitted to the Taluka Hospital, Khairpur Nathan Shah.

The clash, in which guns were used, was said to be a result of a personal vendetta.

ACCIDENT: A woman, Haleema Panhwar, 50, died on the spot after being hit by a Larkana-bound coach on the Indus Highway at Pir Shakh, near Bhan Saeedabad town, on Monday.
