FAISALABAD, June 16: A man was allegedly tortured to death by police here on Monday.

According to reports, Muhammad Shahid, 32, who tried to lift a bicycle from Amin Park, was caught by some people and handed over to the Batala Colony police. The police allegedly tortured him to death.

Later, ASI Asghar Ali shifted the body to the District Headquarters Hospital, claiming that the police had recovered it from a park.

Asghar’s heirs alleged that he was arrested by the police at 2:30pm and tortured to death. They added that the police had been forcing them to sign a note claiming that Shahid had died a natural death. — Staff Correspondent
