Lawyers vow to wage anti-LFO struggle
ISLAMABAD, June 16: Former president of the Lahore High Court Bar Association, Rawalpindi Bench, Mohammad Ikram Chaudhry has pledged that the lawyers will continue their ongoing anti-LFO “struggle” till its withdrawal.
Talking to this agency on Monday, he said General Pervez Musharraf should put off his uniform in the best interest of the country.
He observed that the Legal Framework Order, a document introduced by General Musharraf, was not part of the Constitution unless passed by the legislators adding that those who are talking to make LFO a part of constitution are traitors.
Mr Chaudhry condemned the National Assembly Speaker’s ruling that LFO was the part of the Constitution.
He warned that military intervention and increased polarization would further deepen the ongoing crisis. The military intervention may lead to anarchy, he added.
He said systems introduced by military rulers always failed and the system introduced by Gen Musharraf would also go with him.
Mr Ikram said powers to make and amend the constitution are discretion of the Parliament alone. “Neither GHQ, nor Supreme Court can exercise such discretionary powers of the sovereign Parliament,” he maintained.
He asked the government to give up its “rigid” stance and withdraw or table the LFO in the Parliament to decide its fate within the parameters of the constitutional guarantees.
He stressed that major political forces should be taken into confidence and national consensus be evolved to bring the country out from prevailing crisis.
Mr Chaudhry said the opposition parties including Muttahida Majilis-i-Amal, People’s Party Parliamentarians and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz will succeed in their ongoing struggle against LFO, adding that no movement could be buried by force.
He urged the lawyers and Parliamentary leaders to continue their ongoing struggle against the LFO till its withdrawal.
He termed the sealing of Supreme Court Bar Association offices and library as an illegal act of the SC administration and suggested that the court administration should de-seal the SCBA offices and library to avert any untoward incident.—PPI
