KARACHI: Newspaper employees protest

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, June 16: Journalists and newspaper employees marched on the Sindh Assembly prior to its budget session on Monday to protest against the non-implementation of the 7th wage award.

The protest march started from the Karachi Press Club. The protesters carried banners and placards and banged empty plates.

At the assembly, police had barricaded all approaches, but the protesters managed to reach the main gate. They demanded that release of advertisements to newspapers be linked with the implementation of the wage award.

Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar invited a delegation of the protesters to his assembly chambers and assured it of efforts to ensure that their legitimate and legal demands were honoured.

MPAs of the Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Dr Sohrab Sarki, Abdullah Murad and Dr Salim Hingoro expressed solidarity with the newspaper employees and assured them that they would move a resolution in the assembly in this regard.
