KARACHI: Warrants for arrest of top Haqiqi leaders

KARACHI, June 16: The additional district and session judge, Malir, Mohammed Yameen, issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of top leaders of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement in a murder case, on Monday.
The case pertained to the killing of driver Kafil Uddin and wounding of his passenger, Rafiqun Nisa, in a firing incident in July last year within the limits of the Malir City police.
Younus Khan, a leader of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) and party’s only MPA in Sindh Assembly, was arrested on December 10, last year in this case.
According to the charge-sheet, a Haqiqi worker, Babar alias Babri, was arrested for killing the cab driver. During interrogation, he disclosed to have committed the offence on the insistence of the party’s top leadership.
The court issued on non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Haqiqi chief, Afaq Ahmed, and secretary-general, Amir Khan, Imtiaz Koti and Danish and ordered their production before the court on July 1.
REMANDED: Seven suspected workers of the banned Harkatul Mujahideen, who were arrested for their alleged involvement in bomb blasts, were given in police custody for interrogation.
The judicial magistrate, East, Basheer Ahmed Channa, extended the police remand of Mohammed Riaz, who was seriously injured in the blast near Aladin Park last Monday.
