Javed and Mansoor excel in final

KARACHI, June 14: Mansoor Ahmed and Javed Qadeer produced excellent performances to help A.J. Worldwide clinch the 12th Hinopak Trophy KCCA Inter-firm cricket league with a convincing six-wicket over Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in the final at UBL Sports Complex here on Friday.

For the second year running DHA finished runners-up, having lost to Dewan Sugar Mills in the final last year.

Leg-spinner Mansoor captured five for 66 in 17 overs as DHA were restricted to 223 for nine in their 50 overs.

Sajid Hanif struck nine boundaries in making 63 for DHA before offering a return catch to off-spinner Atif Maqbool.

Former Pakistan wicket-keeper Javed Qadeer, who played in the final as a batsman, then lashed an unbeaten 100 with the aid of five hits to the fence as A.J. Worldwide achieved their target in 48.5 overs.

Man-of-the-Match Javed and Talha Khan, who made 51 with one six and a four, shared a match-winning partnership of 158 for the third wicket.

Fittingly, skipper Saad Wasim had the honour of striking the winning runs — a six off DHA captain and slow left-armer Col Fazal Abbas — with the scores level. He finished with 26 in the unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 52 with Javed.

Summarised scores:

A.J. Worldwide beat DHA by six wickets.

DHA 223-9 in 50 overs (Sajid Hanif 63, Mubashir Ahmed 30, Anis Shaikh 27; Mansoor Ahmed 5-66);

A.J. WORLDWIDE 229-4 in 48.5 overs (Javed Qadeer 100 not out, Talha Khan 51, Mohammad Imran 33, Saad Wasim 26 not out).
