KARACHI, June 14: Khas-Ul-Khas is on course for his fifth successive victory, when the Summer Gymkhana Race Meeting gets under way at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
Owned by Rahat Sultan and perhaps with jockey M. Mazhar once again in the saddle, Khas-Ul-Khas should be challenged all the way to the winning post by Chachu’s Dream and Sapno Ki Rani in the last race on the afternoon’s programme.
Seven events have been drawn up, all to contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs. The first race begins at 1-30 p.m.
Another runner that should not be beaten on Sunday afternoon is Mrs. Yasmin K. Khan’s thoroughbred bay horse Dauntless, participating in the second event in a field of 13 runners. Prism Of Life and Even Top are likely to give the favourite a tough time.
The same could be said about Abdul Raza’s dark bay National Lining, beaten last Sunday by Yaqoob’s Choice by a close margin of one and half lengths, after the two were engaged in a keen tussle sprinting for the winning post. In the opener which has 10 runners vying for the spoils, Grey Boy tracking well in his morning exercises and with a good rider astride should win this five furlong sprint from Much Better and Royal Promise, with Gharnata joining the fray.
Although carrying a heavy burden of 9-2 on his back, Auzy, a bay horse is fancied in our columns to win the fourth race from Cosby Kid and Just In Fun. The following event has a big field of 16 runners and should provide plenty for thrills for the racing fans. Of the lot Champion Lady, Nawab, Deniro, Rajwar and Sonia, all have a chance to bag the honours.
However, our column fancies the speedy Champion Lady to pass the winning post ahead of Nawab and Rajwar.
Roberto Carlos Fan after his first victory over here last Sunday is all set to repeat that performance for the connections, but the bay horse will have to work up a sweat to overcome the challenge of Shah Khan, Blue’s Night, Blue’s Night and Royal Lancer.
