HYDERABAD, June 13: The Sindh High Court, Hyderabad circuit bench, here on Friday directed the TPO of Shahdadpur to appear before thee court on June 17 in connection with a constitutional petition, alleging police harassment.

The petitioner, Ibrahim Khoso, resident of Shahpur Chakar, Sanghar district, has cited the TPO of Shahdadpur, DPOs, operation and investigation, Sanghar, and the SHO of Sarhari as respondents.

He stated that on June 6, the SHO with several policemen raided the house of his relatives in the Mohammad Khoso village, abused and beat up the inmates, arrested his cousin, Abdul Qadir Khoso, and took away Rs8,700, NIC and gold ornaments.

He said that when they asked for reason for the raid, the SHO said that they were involved in crimes and had refused to sell out lands to Mushtaq thereby annoying the DPO therefore it was a lesson for them.

He said that the policemen told his relatives that if they brought Rs50,000, they would release Qadir otherwise he would be tortured and booked in heinous cases.

The petitioner further said that he and his relatives approached the DPO and asked for legal action but nothing happened and added that since then the detainee had been tortured at the Sarhari police station.

He prayed the court to issue a rule nisi and direct a court official or civil judge to conduct a surprise raid at the police station for release of the detainee.

He also prayed the court to restrain the TPO and the DPO from harassing him and order legal action against SHO.

On Friday, SHO, Sarhari, Mohammad Younus Baloch, and the DPO, operation, Sanghar, in their comments, denied having picked up the relative of the petitioner and torturing him.
