KARACHI: 5 dormant projects revived


KARACHI, June 13: The Sindh government has made at least five dormant schemes functional by providing funds for them through the ADP.

The schemes which have been reviewed included Government Commercial Training Institute Lyari, Government Mono-Technical Institute Singolane Lyari, Government Degree Girls Arts and Science College, Shireen Jinnah Colony, and Government Boys Science College KMC Stores, Nishtar Road.

The Rs6.202 million scheme for Government Commercial Training Institute, Lyari, was devised in 1995, but remained unexecuted due to non-availability of plot of land. However, the Sindh government has now acquired land and the scheme is expected to be completed in a year’s time.

Another Rs 15.681 million scheme for Mono-Technical Institute Singolane, Lyari, was also prepared in 1995 but remained pending. the scheme would be completed in 18 months.

Moreover, Rs 28.590 million scheme for Government Degree Boys Science College, KMC Stores, Nishtar Road, was formulated in 1997-98 but could not be executed for want of land. It has now been started after acquisition of land and it is expected to be completed in two years.

Yet anther scheme of Rs17.507 million for Government Girls Degree Arts and Science College, Shireen Jinnah Colony, was devised in 1992 but remained unimplemented. Work has not been started after acquiring a plot and providing necessary funds from the ADP.

Another scheme of a two-storeyed college will be made functional in two years time.

Inaugurating work on these schemes, Sindh minister for planning and development Shoaib Ahmed Bukhari said on Friday said the government had allocated funds for on-going and new schemes in the ADP so that they could be completed in time, without any hindrance.

The minister said the government was fulfilling its commitments made to the people by completing these schemes of public welfare. He directed the officials to make these schemes functional by completing them on time. MPAs Farida Baloch, Dr Abdul Aziz Bantva, Syed Tayyab Hashmi, Akhtar Bilgrami and Shakir Ali accompanied the minister.

SEWERAGE LINE: A sewerage line is being laid down in Landhi at a cost of Rs3.07 million from the governor’s special development programme.

The sewerage line is being laid in Town No-4 with the cooperation of the KWSB and the city government and it would benefit 10,000 people of the area.

Inaugurating the sewerage line on Friday, the Sindh minister for local bodies, Mohammad Hussain Khan, said that the government attaches great importance to water supply and drainage systems and its diversion from flood nullah.—APP
