LAHORE, June 10: Thirty-seven probables have been called to pick and prepare Pakistan hockey team for the 25th Champions Trophy to be held in the Netherlands from Aug 16 to 24.
Before the Champions Trophy the team will also play two warm-up matches against the Dutch.
The training camp will be held in the Army School of Training and Mountain Warfare, Abbotabad from July 1 to 9 for specialised physical conditioning.
The camp will later be shifted to Steel Sports Complex, Karachi from July 11 to August 10.
As expected, three players, out of the four who were involved in a disciplinary matter for not reporting to the previous training camp set up for the recently concluded Australian tour, were not called for the camp.
They are penalty-corner specialist Sohail Abbas, Waseem Ahmad and Aamir Saleem. The fourth player Muhammad Nadeem, who later apologised for his undisciplined attitude but was not included for the tour to the Land Down Under, as a punishment has been called for the camp.
Nadeem and the two other players had preferred to play league hockey in Germany while Aamir was in England.
A PHF spokesman said that as the case was pending against three players, therefore, they were not included in the list of probables.
The decision would be taken upon their return.
Tariq Aziz, the captain of Pakistan Junior team, who got his maiden tour of Australia with the senior team was not called for the senior camp. He will most probably again lead the junior team which is touring Europe from June to August.
Former skipper, Muhammad Sarwar, and goalkeeper Muhammad Qasim who were not considered for the Australian tour, are also included in the list of probables.
