KARACHI: Beach Avenue project Allottees concerned over non-completion

KARACHI, June 10: The allottees of the Lyari Development Authority’s project—Beach Avenue—urged the authorities to take note of the inordinate delay in completion of the project which was planned for 2001 and is now expected to be completed in 2005.

An allottee said the booking of the project started in March 1998 with a claim that it would be completed in three year.

At the time of booking a payment schedule was also issued, which was considered to be binding on the parties and now the KDA had started making extra demands in violation of the schedule, the source added.

The project comprises six blocks with a total of 471 apartments. The authority has failed to follow the construction plan, and due to its own inefficiency and administrative issues, the work remained absolutely suspended on for over two years. Now work is in progress on only one block where only the roof of second floor has been constructed. The contractor attributes the delay to non-payment of dues by the allottees.

The authority has also received the amount which it is supposed to collect at the time of installation of doorframes, internal electricity and plumbing fittings (stage F), while it has only completed two stages, that too in only one block.

The authority, as per the schedule of payment, was to collect Rs20,000 (4,000 per month instalments) at every stage, but it has issued challans for Rs10,000 per month to the allottees.

The allottees fear that the authority has failed to sell the apartments and the project will never be completed for want of money.—APP
