Assembly face no threat: CM

By Our Correspondent

SARGODHA, June 9: If the opposition maintained its non-cooperative attitude at the august forum of parliament, the government will show no leniency towards it.

This was stated by Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi while speaking at a gathering in Kotmomen, some 64km from here, on Sunday night in connection with the election campaign of PML-Q nominee Zahid Iqbal Sindhu for PP-30 by-election.

The chief minister said the government would not allow the opposition to disrupt the assembly proceedings. The opposition had witnessed in the last session of the Punjab Assembly that the government had not accepted the wrong attitude of the wrongdoers at the behest of those sitting abroad and doing their politics here by phone.

He said there was no threat to democracy or the assembly. The Punjab government comprised patriotic people, and they would frustrate evil designs of all those who claimed that they would not allow the assembly to run. He said the government would welcome any positive suggestion from the opposition, but would not allow them to sabotage the democratic process.

He said there was no need to demand resignation from Gen Pervez Musharraf as army chief as he had not only revived democracy but also put the country on the road to progress.

The chief minister announced tehsil status for Kotmomen. He also announced upgrade of boys and girls higher secondary schools of Kotmomen up to the degree level.

He announced a special grant of Rs24 million for the provision of drinking water and sewerage schemes in Phularwan and Kotmomen besides the construction of a bypass.

He also promised the provision of Sui gas to the inhabitants of Phularwan and Kotmomen.

He said Rs2 billion was being allocated for the improvement of the irrigation system out of which a lion’s share would be given to Sargodha.
