19 MMA men held for torching circus

GUJRANWALA, June 9: Around 19 activists of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, including a union council Nazim, were arrested for setting a circus on fire during an anti-obscenity campaign at Ghulam Hussain Park a few days ago.

The police teams were conducting raids for the arrest of other accused, including MMA MNA Maulana Qazi Hamidullah, DPO Saud Aziz said here on Monday.

The DPO said that activists of Shabab-i-Milli led by MNA Qazi Hamidullah had attacked the circus on the GT Road and torched it. He warned that the lawlessness would not be tolerated at any cost and the accused involved in the incident would be taken to task.

Those arrested are: JI leader and Nazim of Wahdat Colony union council Hafiz Hameeduddin Awan, Nasir Awaisi, Asif Awaisi, Abdul Samad, Mahboob Nawaz, Faryad, Shafiq, Jamil, Abdul Majid, Rafiq, Sarwar, Abbas, Hafiz Abdul Qudus, Ghulam Hussain, Ehsanullah, Riaz and others.

The DPO said the remaining accused would also be arrested soon and nobody would be allowed to take law into his own hand.

VISIT: PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain arrived here on Monday and visited the residence of the late Tehrik-i-Pakistan activist, Syed Kazim Ali Shah.

The PML-Q chief expressed his condolences with the deceased’s brother, Syed Ashfaq Ahmad. PML-N’s former federal minister Ghulam Dastagir Khan, provincial Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal and Punjab chief minister’s advisor Muwahid Hussain were also present on the occasion.
