KARACHI, June 9: Sindh Chief Minister Sardar Ali Mohammad Mahar has vowed to make the province a citadel of peace and tranquillity.
He was presiding over a high-level meeting on Monday, pertaining to law and order situation in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mahar said it was government’s top priority to protect the lives and property of the people.
The CM expressed the hope that Sindh would make progress if complete peace was established.
He directed the police to improve its performance and utilize its resources to curb crimes and resolve the problems of the people.
He asked the district police officers to keep an eye on the happenings in their jurisdictions and also monitor the performance of SHOs and inspectors.
He asked the adviser on home affairs, the chief secretary, the home secretary and the IGP to visit various districts of the province, review law and order and also look into the police performance as well as its problems.
Mr. Mahar also warned that action would be initiated against those police officers who would not come up to the expectations of the people or would cause any inconvenience to the people.
He said that in this connection powers have been delegated to the IGP.
The chief minister told in clear terms that there would be no compromise on law and order.
Mr. Mahar directed that in every district, Madadgar 15 centres be set up so that the problems of the people could be resolved.
He took a serious notice of incidents of car thefts in Karachi and issued directives to curb this trend.
The chief minister warned that action would be initiated against the patharidars who encourage criminals.
He also asked the police to contribute towards bringing to an end the tribal disputes.
The chief minister directed that patrolling on highways be increased and incidents of looting be brought to an end.
IGP Sindh Syed Kamal Shah briefed Mr. Mahar about the performance of the police.—APP
