GUJRANWALA, June 8: The National Database Registration Authority has started distribution of computerized identity cards from its district registration offices following revocation of an agreement with the post office, it is learnt.

Sources said Nadra and post office authorities had reached an agreement for the distribution of computerized identity cards, but the postmen delivered the same at grocers’ shops in some areas for distribution which were later recovered by Nadra teams. Then Nadra cancelled the agreement with post offices.

Meanwhile, the district registration office has told the people that their cards of series 285, 286, 241, 228, 235, 254, 217, 210, 247, 248 and 249 were available at the district office, while the list of these cards had been pasted outside the office.

HARDSHIPS: Residents of Naushera Virkan and Ghakkhar town are facing hardships in the absence of water for the water supply system in both these towns has gone out of order.

Citizens of these towns told newsmen here on Sunday that motor pumps of Naushera Virkan and Ghakkhar municipalities had developed fault despite being repaired.

They said that hands pumps could not fulfil the requirement of increasing demand of water during the withering heatwave.

They asked the Nazims of union councils and municipalities to replace the defective motors forthwith for providing smooth water supply to citizens.

DEMANDED: The low-paid employees of the Education department working as naib qasids, record lifters and daftris asked the Punjab government to promote them on the post of clerk on the basis of their seniority.

This demand was made at a meeting held here on Sunday presided over by Tariq Abdullah.

ESCAPES: An accused involved in a theft case escaped from police custody in district courts here on Saturday.

An ASI and a constable were booked on the orders of the district police officer.

Miraj Din was arrested by Aroop police a few days ago. The handcuffed accused was taken to court by ASI Liaquat Ali and constable Amin from where he managed to escape.

Civil Lines police have registered a case against the accused, the ASI and the constable.
