KARACHI: JI accuses Muttahida of terrorism

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 8: The Jamaat-i-Islami has alleged that “armed terrorists” of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Saturday opened fire at the residence of Farhan Baig, 16-year old son of the late JI leader Mirza Luqman Baig, dragged him out from the house, thrashed him and threatened to kill him.

According to a JI press release, a few days back the MQM candidate in the byelection of NA 255, Dr Farooq Sattar, addressing an election meeting, had used threatening language against the JI and the Muttahida Majlis-i- Amal, and their workers were warned of serious consequences.

MMA candidate Muhammad Aslam Mujahid went to the Landhi Police station and protested at the refusal by the police to register an FIR.

JI’s Karachi Amir Dr Mairaj-ul-Huda Siddiqui and Muhammad Aslam Mujahid condemned the “armed attack by MQM goons and the partial attitude of the police”. They termed the incident an act of state-sponsored terrorism.

Muhammad Aslam Mujahid has sent telegrams to the chief election commissioner and President Gen Pervez Musharraf, urging them to take notice of the incident, ensure maintenance of law and order and protect political workers and people in the area.

Addressing Ulema conventions at the MPA office, Aslam Mujahid said the problems of Landhi could not be solved by kilashnikov but by the ‘book.’
