BAHAWALPUR, June 6: Civil Lines police on Friday arrested only one APCA office-bearer out of 18 against whom the Irrigation chief engineer, Bahawalpur zone, had lodged a complaint that they had stormed into his office and incited the employees for a strike.
Police are conducting raids to arrest Apca president Fakharur Rehman Azhar and other office bearers.
Initially, the police took into custody about six clerks, but they were released after the establishment of their identity. The wanted Apca office bearers have gone underground for fear of their arrest.
TWO MURDERED: Two persons were murdered in different areas here on Friday.
Police said Muhammad Hassan was asleep in his house at Mauza Zagheera when unidentified assailant came there and shot him to death.
Saddar police have registered a case on the report of Aziz Ahmed, the deceased’s brother.
Muhammad Qasim allegedly axed to death his wife Meraj Bibi in his house. The accused suspected that his wife had relations with one Iqbal of the same locality.
Musafir Khana police have registered a case against the accused.
HEATWAVE: The heatwave continued for the sixth day on Friday as there was no letup in the temperature which was 45.7 degree centigrade.
People stayed inside their houses and the vehicular traffic was also thin on roads. The Met office forecast that the heatwave is likely to persist for another two or three days.
