HYDERABAD, June 6: The provincial minister for Zakat, Ushr, Auqaf, Religious and Minority Affairs, Dr Irfan Gul Magsi, has directed the chairmen and vice-chairmen of all the local Zakat Committees to perform their duties with religious zeal and avoid personal likes and dislikes in the distribution of Zakat cheques.

He was speaking at an open kutchery held at the office of the District Zakat Committee here on Thursday.

He expressed his annoyance over the unsigned cheques which had been prepared for distribution under the self-employment scheme.

He warned that he would not tolerate such negligence on the part of chairmen Zakat Committees in future.

He warned that if anyone issued cheques after accepting bribe or demanding bribe, an FIR would be registered against both the parties.

He said the government had released billions of rupees in the past for distribution among the deserving people but the payment was made without transparency.

He appealed to the people to cooperate in the distribution of Zakat funds in a transparent manner and also to identify corrupt government functionaries.

On this occasion, he distributed an amount of Rs12,996,000 among 1,164 deserving people of the city Taluka.

He announced that in future also cheques would be distributed in open kutcheries.

Later, he visited the Jamia Mosque, Saddar, Hyderabad, and advised the tenants of the mosque to pay their rent on time to ensure better facilities for the worshippers.

He directed the administrator, Auqaf department, to constitute a committee to resolve the problems of the mosque.

He also visited the Shah Waliullah Academy.

SU: The registrar, University of Sindh, has notified here on Friday that the summer vacations for the teaching institutes/departments of the University of Sindh would commence from June 16 and last till August 9.

He has advised all the teachers concerned to submit the results of the semester examinations before proceeding on vacations.

He further notified that during the summer vacations in the teaching departments/institutes, the directors and chairpersons of the respective departments and institutes would be available in their offices twice a week on every Monday and Tuesday from 9am to 1pm.

The hostel provost of the University of Sindh has notified for the information of all students concerned residing in the Boys Hostels of BA, BSc (Hons) Part-II, Part-III and MA, MSc (Final) to hand over the possession of their hostel rooms to their in charge, hostels, after their examinations.
