RAWALPINDI, June 3: An amount of Rs2.7 million has been released for the construction of water supply schemes in different areas in the jurisdiction of the tehsil municipal administration (TMA).

This was stated by the provincial minister for law and local governments, Muhammad Basharat Raja, while talking to different delegations in the TMA office here on Tuesday.

The water supply schemes include Azizabad Rs2 million, Chamanabad Rs0.2 million and Multani Mohallah Rs0.5 million. The work on these projects would be started this month, he told the delegates.

The minister said the government was committed to resolving people’s problems. The time has gone when people were to be fed on false claims and hollow slogans, he said.

PPI ADDS: Residents of Sadiqabad have expressed concern over acute water shortage and sanitation problems in the locality.

They said their locality was without these civic problems for a long period, owing to the apathy authorities concerned.

A survey conducted by this agency showed that the residents of these localities had no proper water supply system even in the scorching heat.

The residents said they had been compelled to fetch potable water from other localities.

They said poor sanitation in the area was also cause of concern for them.

They asked the authorities concerned to take steps for ending the sufferings of the people.

TENCH BHATA: Residents of Tench Bhata have also been facing acute water shortage for the last several days.

The residents told this agency that despite lodging several complaints with the authorities concerned, the situation was not improving. They said they had been facing difficulties owing to the prevailing water shortage in the area. They asked the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board officials to resolve the issue and make permanent arrangements for water supply to the locality.

CONTAMINATED WATER: Meanwhile, residents of sector G-9/4 in Islamabad have said that contaminated water is being supplied to their sector.

The residents said the Water Directorate of Capital Development Authority (CDA) had, however, started water bowser service in affected localities of sector G-9/4.
