MUZAFFARABAD, June 3: Over 600 protestors, including women and children, from the Neelum Valley on Monday urged the United Nations to persuade India to stop the relentless shelling from across the Line of Control into the territory of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
This was stated in a memorandum submitted by leaders of an alliance comprising various religious and political parties to the UN observers after holding a march originating from the Bank Road and terminating at the UN observers’ office located in the Domel area.
Protesters emphasised on the reopening of the main road in their area, which had been closed for traffic since long because of being in the range of small arms fire from the Indian side of the LoC.
Carrying banners saying “no bombing, we want peace”, the marchers said their misery had been aggravated by the closure of the main road in the valley.
The protest rally follows the death of six people on May 7 when a jeep they were travelling came under attack.
The rally marched to the United Nations office.
