BAHAWALPUR, June 3: A boy who sustained burns in an acid attack near Mauza Mubarakpur on May 10 succumbed to his injuries in the Bahawal Victoria Hospital here on Tuesday.

Bilal, 7, sustained burns along with his seven other family members when his uncle threw acid on them after having an altercation with his father.

His sister Reema, 16, had already succumbed to her burns.

One Rao Sadaqat Ali, with the help of his two accomplices, allegedly threw acid on his brother Rao Ashiq and his family members.

The remaining injured are still under treatment.

Police have arrested the all three accused.

ACCIDENT: Motorcyclist Muhammad Iqbal, who suffered serious injuries in an accident near Lal Sohanra, about 40 kilometres from here on Monday, succumbed to his injuries at the BVH on Tuesday.

ANTI-POLIO DRIVE: A three-day special anti-polio campaign began in Bahawalpur and Ahmadpur East tehsils of Bahawalpur district on Tuesday.

The drive has been launched as a precautionary measure after detection of 11 polio cases in Bahawalpur’s adjacent district, Lodhran.

The drive was inaugurated by DCO Imran Ahmad. About 300,000 children, below five years of age, will be given polio drops by 659 teams.

CASE REGISTERED: The Baghdadul Jadid police on Tuesday registered a case against a Naib Nazim, a member of Zakat committee and three others, on the charges of trespassing and looting household articles of a woman at Tibba Badar Shair.

Ms Zulekha alleged that union council No 16 Naib Nazim Rao Nasir Ali, Zakat committee member Mian Nazir, Rao Ali Bahadur and two others trespassed, ransacked and forcibly occupied her house.

They have not yet been arrested.

MA ENGLISH: According to a gazette notification of Islamia University, Bahawalpur, 181 candidates out of 540 who took MA English second annual examinations, 2002, held in March/April last, were declared successful, showing a pass percentage of 34.
