Super Bowl Pair contest today
KARACHI, June 2: The 16th chapter of the Super Bowl series will commence at the Aslam Memorial Bridge Hall on Tuesday.
This month’s Super Bowl is being held to honour famous and oldest pair in bridge circuit Abdul Khaliq and Nasir Reza Khan. The duo has carved a name in the annals of bridge history to be the oldest partnership not only in Pakistan but according to the records of the World Bridge Federation.
They joined in 1972 and it is almost 30 years period that the partnership is going successfully.
In the meantime both the week-end bridge programmes of Karachi Bridge Association were hotly contested by the lovers of the game. Now it seems that it is becoming a straight fight between EFU and Shahab.
Out of 16 competitors, EFU, comprising Hasan Sajjad, Zafar Zaki, Ghufran Ashraf and Shahab Khan won four out of five matches from Mushahid 19-11, Terminator 22-8, Ahmed 25-5 and Shahab 24-6, losing fourth round match to attackers 13-17. EFU claimed to berth with a score of 103 VPs.
Attackers with two regular pairs of Qudsia Dossa-Zeenat, Azwer and Rafiq Hingora collected 99 VPs, winning four matches from Shahab 22-8, Mahmood 25-5, Raees 22-8 and EFU 17-13 and a draw in the last round with 13 VPs, pushed them to the second position.
Veterans Jamal claimed third berth with a score of 89 VPs, winning three matches.
Earlier, in the pairs contest 36 pairs were placed in two houses equally. From the senior’s section Shakeel Chandna- Mubashir Puri emerged on top of the ladder with a handsome percentage of 63, closely followed by Dr. llyas-Janbaz Jafri 61 and Zeenat Azwer-Qudsia Dossa 57 percent.
In the other house, Javed Iqbal- Ghaffar outpaced their opponents with a score of 63 percent. M.G Siddiqui- S.P. Jamal finished runners-up with a score of 61 and Shirin Bokhari - Siraj Salam finished on third position with a 59 per cent score.—APP
