WSF seeks opinions for scoring method

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, June 2: The World Squash Federation (WSF) is seeking opinions from people connected with the sport for rationalisation of the different scoring methods currently in use.

The move comes after a WSF Task Force established early last year could not recommend ways in which a common scoring system could be agreed between the Professional Squash Association (PSA), the women’s body WISPA and the WSF.

Headed by Joyce Buckley, the Task Force failed to reach any conclusions despite several meetings between the representatives of the three organisations.

Chief executive of the WSF Ted Wallbutton said that it proved difficult to recommend any “mutually acceptable solution”.

The WSF is now circulating a questionnaire seeking suggestions from the national federations worldwide and others associated with squash ahead of its Annual General Meeting in Vienna this October.

The suggestions received from across the world would then be used in Vienna for discussions so that a solution could be found.

The questionnaire asks the respondents which scoring system was in use in their country in national leagues and other major tournaments and which system was preferred.

Secretary of the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), Wing Commander Sajid Waheed told Dawn that although they had not received the questionnaire they would be keen to take part in the debate.
