Awareness of cyber crime need of hour, says official


ISLAMABAD, June 2: Federal Investigation Agency’s National Response Centre for Cyber Crime is playing a vital role in creating awareness about cyber crime as it is the need of the hour.

The centre was established at the FIA Headquarters some eight months ago.

This was stated by DG FIA Syed Mohib Asad at an awareness seminar on middle management level, organized by the FIA’s Cyber Crime Centre, here on Monday.

Mr Asad appreciated the working of the centre, which, since its inception, had organized a number of seminars and training programmes all over the country on various levels of management, besides, giving information to the government about hackers’ attacks.

Cyber Crime Centre project director Ammar Jafari said a cyber crime reporting cell had been created at FIA’s Headquarters in Islamabad, enabling the people from across the country to report cyber crime incidents.

He further informed the participants that all the four provinces as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir would soon have cyber crime centres and, in this respect, full cooperation was being extended to the provincial governments. Speakers at this awareness seminar highlighted the details of various types of cyber crime, counter measures, technical details etc.

Mohtarma Amina Bano, an advocate, while giving the details of efforts made for legislative and legal measures in this respect, said, besides considering various legal aspect of this issue so far, a lot of work on legislation had also been completed.

She said international institutions were also being contacted as the implementation of cyber law would not only have an impact on national level, but it would also be practical and effective at global level. — APP
