GUJRANWALA, June 2: Several remote areas in the district will be electrified soon on the proposal of elected representatives, according to Gujranwala Electric Power Company Chief Executive Brig Saifullah Khalid.

Speaking at an open kutchery held at an executive engineer’s office at Pasrur on Monday, he urged the consumers to avoid adopting illegal channels to get new connections. He said cable to cable connection was illegal, and warned that stern action would be taken against the Gepco officials involved in illegally providing connections to the consumers.

He appealed to the defaulters to clear their outstanding dues according to the association’s package, otherwise their cases would be referred to a private company.

Gepco CE listened to the consumers’ complaints and directed the officials concerned to redress these.

TRAFFIC PLAN: The local traffic police have started one-way traffic in various roads of the district, SP Farooq Mazhar claimed.

Briefing the newsmen on Monday, he said one-way traffic had been started at Daal Bazaar, Kharadanwala Bazaar and on the Tehsil Road. While many U-turns had been removed on the GT Road to ensure smooth flow of traffic, he added.

KILLED IN ACCIDENT: A man was killed when a motorcycle-rickshaw hit him on the GT Road here on Monday.

Reports said Riaz Ahmad was crossing the road when the three-wheeler hit him. He died on his way to the District Headquarters Hospital.

Police have registered a case and are in search of the driver.

FATHER KILLED: A quarrel between two brothers claimed the life of their father on Asghar Ali Road here on Monday.

Naveed and Nafees had quarrelling with each other over a minor issue. After exchanging harsh words, Naveed opened fire on Nafees, but the bullet hit their father Saeed Ahmad who died instantly.

Police have registered a case and are investigating.

DISMISSED: A reader of a local sessions court was dismissed from service on Monday on the charge of taking bribe from a complainant.

Muhammad Afzal received Rs83,000 from a party and assured them that the decision of the case would be in their favour. The inquiry conducted against the reader found him guilty of charges.
