UC Nazims resign

Published June 3, 2003

HANGU, June 2: Union Council Nazims have tendered resignation, as a mark of solidarity with the district Nazims, against what they called undue interference of the MMA-led provincial government in the local government affairs.

Speaking at a joint press conference held at the press club here the union council Nazims, including Malik Shafiq Aurakzai and Malik Amanullah, handed over their resignations to District Nazim Pir Haider Ali Shah.

They alleged that the MMA had usurped their powers under a conspiracy and was meddling in the district governments’ affairs.

They said that they accept the Shariat Law in the province, but would never accept the marshal law of the MMA leaders.

They also praised President Gen Pervez Musharraf, saying that he had given an end to the outdated system, which was aimed at enslaving the people, by introducing the local government system in the country.
