PCB to give Wasim grand farewell
KARACHI, June 1: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is planning to bid farewell to the country’s premier all-rounder Wasim Akram by including him in one of the One-day Internationals in the forthcoming home series against South Africa later this year.
“He (Wasim) had given nothing to PCB in writing and we want to give him grand send-off from international cricket,” PCB chief Lt Gen Tauqir Zia said on Sunday.
Wasim recently announced retirement from international cricket.
Talking to newsmen, the PCB chief commended the services of Wasim and added it would be appropriate to give him a great send-off by including him in the Pakistan team during Lahore or Karachi one-dayer.
“It would be great to bid him farewell in front of his home crowd,” he said.
“We want to exploit the expertise of Wasim and wanted him to train Pakistani youngsters,” the PCB boss said.
“It would not be in our interest that he coach and train in England,” he maintained.
The PCB is keen to use Wasim’s services in Pakistan cricket academies, he added.
Commenting on his court case, he said Wasim’s appeal for fine against him was pending in the court and unless he did not come to Pakistan, it can not be decided by court.
Wasim was fined after Justice Quyyum inquiry report for allegations of betting and match-fixing.
Wasim filed a petition against the decision in the Lahore High Court.—APP
