Section 144 imposed in Gilgit

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, June 1: The district magistrate has imposed section 144 in the city after four days of violent protests by students of a group against the curriculum.

The district magistrate has banned pillion riding, assembling of more than four persons, carrying of lethal arms, wall-chalking and use of loudspeaker except for Azan.

The army had banned pillion riding in the cantonment area since Saturday.

The measures, officials said, had been taken in the wake of strikes and protests by the Shia community on the issue of syllabus. Leaders of the protesting group had given calls for continuous strikes from Monday in the district.
