NEW DELHI, May 30: Indian and Pakistani officials on Friday indicated they may go for joint inspections of the implementation of a river water treaty on sharing the waters of the Indus river and its tributaries, a press release said.
“There was discussion on possibility of two general tours of inspection, one each in either country during 2003-04 in keeping with the provisions of the treaty,” the release, issued after a three-day meeting of Indus Commissioners from both countries, said.
Asked whether Islamabad will press for neutral experts for the Baglihar hydroelectric project, Shah said, “They (India) have said they will respond in due course of time.”
India’s Indus Commissioner A.D. Bhardwaj said New Delhi reiterated its stand on issue.
“It can be resolved amicably,” he added.—AFP
