KARACHI, May 30: Akbar Pataudi attacking from the word go, downed Yasir Khan 6-4, 6-1, in the final of the Under-18 Boys singles Anti Tobacco Day tennis tournament, organised by the Pakistan’s Women’s Tennis Association at the Karachi Club on Friday.
Fighting back Yasir matched his aggressive opponent in the first set, but was all a sea in the second, which he surrendered 6-1.
In the men’s doubles semifinals, Nomi Qamar and Shahzad Samad, fought back magnificently after losing the opening frame to Asad Ali Bhagat and Ahmed Hussain.
Losing the first set 7-5, Nomi and Shehzad fought their way back into contention picking up the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to book a berth for themselves in the final.
In the veteran doubles semifinals, Nadeem Hafeez and Tariq Aziz warded off a keen challenge by Yaqoob Admani and Yousuf Suleman 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
At the time of filing this story, a keen tussle was under way in the men’s doubles final and the Veteran Doubles final.
The men’s singles final scheduled for Saturday, Nomi Qamar takes on Aqeel Khan and Sana Bhagat matches her skill with Zarmeen Shoaib in the Ladies final which begins at 4.00 p.m.
