MIRPURKHAS, May 30: Farmers of Mirpurkhas taluka have alleged that despite dividing the Jamrao division into groups to effectively implement the water rotation programme, the irrigation officials have failed to judiciously implement the programme as a result growers were sustaining losses.

Talking to journalists here on Thursday, a group of area growers — including Rais Ahmed Khan and Imtiaz Panhwar — alleged that the water rotation programme existed only on papers because it was not being properly implemented.

They demanded of the Sindh secretary of irrigation to ensure strict implementation of the programme.

DIST COUNCIL: Meanwhile, members of the Mirpurkhas District Council have demanded an end to the water rotation programme in the command area of the Nara Canal and deplored inadequate supply of water to the canal.

These views were expressed at a meeting of the district council held here on Thursday.

Speaking at the session, Mian Saleem said that Roshan High School, Kunri, used to be run with the cooperation of the community but the EDO, community development, had dissolved the body of the area residents, running the school, and got Rs19,000 as a loan from school funds.

He demanded an investigation into the matter and handing over of the school to the body of the residents.

The convener of the session directed the EDO, revenue, and concerned union council Nazim to look into the matter and submit their reports to the district council.

He also asked the DCO to submit a report regarding complaints in delayed supply of medicines to government hospitals of the school.

The district council session unanimously passed a resolution demanding a ban on the driving of tractors with Gobal plough on metalled roads.
