Canal breached

SUKKUR, May 30: A 150 feet wide breach occurred in Peer Shakh at RD-92 near Thul, Jacobabad district on Friday as a result the Kamaluddin village was inundated, its 15 houses collapsed and standing crops of vegetable were completely destroyed.

Mohammad Hayat Banglani, Khamiso Pehelani and other villagers, whose crops and houses were destroyed, told journalists that no irrigation official had arrived at the site to help the villagers in plugging the breach.

They demanded of the Sindh irrigation minister to order a high level investigation against the area irrigation officials whose negligence had caused the breach.

They said that the villagers had repeatedly informed the SDO, irrigation, about the weak embankment of the canal but to no avail.

They also demanded of the government to announce the grant of relief for the breach victims.—Correspondent
