SHIKARPUR, May 30: Two dacoits were killed and another was injured in an encounter with the police near the Alif Mirbahar village on Friday.

The three dacoits, Punhal Shar, Gul Bahar Shar alias Manthar and Lal Bux Shar, all of whom were brothers, after raiding the Sofi Kehar village were hiding in the bushes of the Old Dost Wah planning to attack the village again.

The Mian-jo-Goth police were tipped off that they were hiding there. A police party led by SHO Mohammad Ali Soomro went to the Old Dost Wah jungle. On seeing them, the dacoits opened fire. The police retaliated.

The encounter lasted for two hours. In the shootout, two dacoits — Gul and Lal — were killed, while the third — Punhal — was injured and arrested by the police.

The police recovered two Kalashnikovs, a TT pistol and a good quantity of ammunition from their possession.

The police claimed that the dacoits, who were from Balochistan, were involved in many heinous crimes in Sindh and Balochistan.
