KARACHI: PPP body criticizes ‘fascist acts’

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, May 30: The Pakistan People’s Party’s Karachi coordination committee on Friday strongly condemned what it called the fascist acts of the government against the opposition in the Punjab Assembly, and against journalists in Lahore.

The meeting, chaired by Syed Qaim Ali Shah at Bilawal House, also deplored the ‘partisan role’ of the provincial government and its administration in the NA-255 byelection process in Landhi.

Attended by Prof N.D.Khan, Taj Haider and Munawwar Suhrawardi, the meeting questioned the integrity of speaker of the Punjab Assembly and provincial ministers who had said that the police were not following their orders.

“It is apparent that they too are part of the overall conspiracy. How could the speaker allow a resolution for acceptance of a president in uniform, which so grossly violates the constitution,” it was said.

The meeting was of the view that the strong-arm tactics used by the Punjab government had fully exposed the that meetings of government representatives with the opposition on the LFO were a farce and a tactic to gain time.

The coordination committee also termed the incident in Lahore a rehearsal of the “fascist methods the government plans to employ during the budget session of the National Assembly.”

It lauded Qasim Zia and his colleagues for their ‘courageous’ stand and assured him of solidarity. The meeting also deplored excesses against journalists.

It also slammed the method used by the provincial administration to demolish the Haqiqi headquarters. It condemned the establishment’s policy of using one group of citizens against another.
