KARACHI, May 29: Second seed Nomi Qamar reached the final in the Men’s Singles final, when he handed out a 6-0, 6-2 defeat to Jalil Khan in the Anti Tobacco Day Tennis Tournament at the Karachi Club on Thursday.
He will take on top seed Aqeel Khan, who had to break into a sweat in accounting for Nomi’s doubles partner Shahzad Samad Khan 7-6 (7-4), 6-3.
Yasir Khan picked up the Boy’s under-14 title beating Ali Asghar 6-3, 6-0.
In the Ladies Singles semi-final Zarmeen Shoaib got the better of Hareem Fatima 6-3, 6-0 and will meet Sana Baghat in the final. Sana had to work hard on her baseline serves while ousting Sofia Khan 6-2, 6-4.
In a tough encounter in the Men’s Doubles Aqeel and Jalil Khan beat the fighting combination of Hassan Mehmood and Khalid Ali 6-4, 6-4 and will play Nomi Qamar and Shehzad Samad Khan or Asad Bhagat and Ahmed Hussain in the final.
At the time of filing this report, Asad excelling in his cross court smashes and very well assisted by Ahmed snatched the first set 7-5 and were leading 1-0 in the second set.
Ali Hussain and Asad Bhagat reached the final of the Executive Doubles after beating Zakaria and M. Ilyas 6-2, 6-2. They will face Ahmed Hussain and Mohammad Ali in the final, who sent Tariq Aziz and Nadeem Hafeez packing 6-3, 6-3 in the other semifinal.
