Hyderabad official quits in protest

By Our Correspondent

HYDERABAD, May 29: Secretary of Hyderabad District Cricket Association, Mahboob Alam Sherwani, has resigned from the body, blaming some officials of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for preferring what he said ‘notorious’ persons — Hafeez-ur-Rehman and Yar Mohammad Solangi — over office-bearers of the association.

Sherwani said that these people were a blot in the name of Hyderabad’s cricket.

Confirming his resignation, addressed to PCB’s general manager domestic, Zakir Khan, he complained that in under-19 trials, conducted by national selector Shoaib Mohammad for Regional Academy, Solangi and Rehman were given importance while DCA officials were neglected.

Targeting Solangi, vice-president of defunct Hyderabad Division Cricket Association (HDCA), he charged that he had been involved in financial mismanagement and added that apart from news reports, PCB chairman and Zakir had been accordingly informed about Solangi’s alleged malpractice by different delegations.

“It is regrettable that instead of distributing an amount of Rs 1 million among four districts or ordering an inquiry against him he was held in high esteem and was appointed supervisor for the grounds, being developed by PCB in Sindh province,” Sherwani lamented and added that Solangi had sabotaged all the efforts of PCB’s general manager development, Irfan Mirza.

He observed that the DCA was bypassed and he was made coordinator for U-19 trials of Regional Academy and now he was working as camp commander of the academy which is highly deplorable.

Referring to Rehman, who is assisting chief coach Azeem Hafeez in Hyderabad’s Regional Academy, Sherwani said he was given three show-cause notices by DCA and Prof Sirajul Islam Bukhari had conducted an inquiry against him. He was suspended for six months from coaching.

Sherwani pointed out that Rehman got 10 boys of his club selected, some of whom later proved to be over age which indicated his malafide intention. “Under existing circumstances, I am unable to run the association where officials are not respected and an ordinary guy is preferred over them.”
