Competitive card for midweek meeting
LAHORE, May 27: A competitive card of five events awaits race-goers at the midweek Lahore Gymkhana races to be held on Wednesday.
All events will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1000m.
In the fifth and feature event, the Toba Tek Singh Plate, a class VII division I, handicap race, there are a dozen acceptors. Of them four are on chance.
They are: Imagine Iff, Royal Strength, Royal Harban and Senna. On classification, five- year-old bay mare Royal Strength is a cut above in class vis-a-vis her 11 rivals.
On current form and performances bay mare Royal Harban, Grey horse Imagine Iff and dark-bay gelding Senna come into equal chance.
Five-year-old chestnut mare Dancing Margina, who was beaten to third place on Sunday last, should make amends this time in the fourth race. She should be followed by Zuhair Choice, Fair Boy and Sun Of Gold.
Five-year-old bay Little Master, who was unlucky to be beaten by Gold Ribbon on Sunday last should avenge his defeat by winning the third race.
He should be challenged by Puma King, Rocket and Hunza.
Brown Bomber should romp home at a rattling pace ahead of Papa Jan and Blessed in the second race.
The opener has a tiny field of six runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Bone Crusher may defy top-weight in handicap at 9-4 and emerge victorious against five in-experienced rivals.
Meanwhile, Colic has not spread in epidemic form at the Lahore Race Club (LRC), an LRC spokesman said on Tuesday.
Clarifying a news item appearing in the Dawn last Saturday, he said an inquiry was conducted which revealed that the rate of colic cases and fatality was not alarming.
Moreover colic is not an epidemic disease and is caused by impurity of fodder.
LRC has already taken extra precautionary measures to protect animals from diseases. He said a colic box has been set up at a cost of rupees 40,000 at the hospital for proper care of the animals.
The first race will be at 3pm.
