Easy wins for top seeds


KARACHI, May 27: Top seed Nomi Qamar-Shahzad Samad and Aqeel Khan- Jalil Khan beat their opponents easily (6-0,6-0) and (6-1,6-0) in the first rounds of men’s doubles in Anti Tobacco Day tennis tournament on Monday at Karachi Club.

As expected Nomi and Shahzad faced not much resistance from their opponents and the pair of Aqeel and Jalil also proved too strong for their rivals.

Splendid performance was displayed in the Under-14 and Under-18 quarterfinals young players gave outstanding performances to move into the semifinals.

Under-14 quarterfinals:

Yasir Khan beat Saad Nasir 6-2,6-2; Mustafa Ali bt S.M Naeem 7-5, 6-2; Ali Asghar bt Danyal Alvi 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (12-10); Nasir Mushtaq bt Hasan Ahmed 6-2,7-5.

Under-18 quarterfinals:

Akber Patudi bt Ali Abdullah 6-2,6-2; Haris Iltifat bt Naresh Das 6-1,6-1; Yasir khan bt Ghulam Abbas 6-4,6-3; Danish Ahmed bt Aamir Ali Khan 5-7,6-1,6-1.

Men’s doubles first round:

Hasan Mehmood-Khalid Ali bt Akber Khan-Salim 6-1.6-1; Nomi-Shahzad bt Ali Abdullah-Aamir Ali 6-0,6-0; Aqeel-Jalil bt Mubashir-Essajee 6-1,6-0.
