DADU, May 27: About 2,000 activists of the People’s Party Parliamentarians took out a procession in the Mehar taluka here on Monday to protest registration of what they called a false case against PPP activists.
The protesters, including members of the Mehar taluka council, belonging to the Awam Dost Panel (ADP), after marching through the main thoroughfares reached the taluka council hall where they staged a demonstration for two hours.
They were led by Dadu PPP president MNA Rafiq Ahmad Jamali, Qasi Shafiq Ahmad Mahessar, Dost Ali Jesar and other party leaders.
Speaking at the demonstration, Mr Jamali said on the insistence of the “Jatoi brothers”, PPP activists were implicated in the kidnapping case of woman councillor Khamisan Khatoon to pressurize them for changing their loyalties.
He said Ms Khatoon was elected on the platform of the ADP.
He alleged that some councillors of the Dadu Ittehad Panel had kidnapped ADP councillor Ratan Kumar. He said during the election on Monday the administration issued a notification of disqualification of two ADP members of the taluka council, Javed Butt and Abdul Sattar Kandhero.
Mr Mahessar termed the election of the taluka Nazim illegal and said it was held without informing members of the ADP.
He alleged that firing was opened at the houses of PPP activists and ADP councillors on Friday and Saturday night.
NAZIM ELECTED: Abdul Waheed Kalhoro of the Dadu Ittehad Panel was elected as the acting Nazim of the Mehar taluka on Monday. Members of the Awam Dost Panel boycotted the election.
Out of 22 members, 12 attended the session and cast their vote.
Naib Nazim Sikandar Soomro presided over the session.
The post of taluka Nazim was vacated after Ehsan Ali Jatoi resigned.
