Rohri Canal banks need strengthening
SUKKUR, May 27: The Sindh minister for irrigation and power, Syed Sadruddin Shah, has said that 20 motors were being installed to drain out stagnant water from breach-inundated areas along the Rohri Canal in order to rehabilitate farms for the current Kharif crop.
While visiting the site of the Rohri Canal, near Ranipur, where the breach had occurred, the minister said that according to the survey of the canal banks it had been found that there were 24 RDs vulnerable to some extent and needed strengthening of banks so as to avoid any mishap in future.
He said, hopefully, by Sunday, the Rohri canal would flow to its capacity between 12,000 and 13,000 cusecs and the remaining major work of the canal would be carried out during the closure period.
He said Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammd Mahar had released Rs2 million for victims.
He said a committee had been formed to conduct a survey regarding the damages and recommend relief to the breach victims.
