132kv power supply tower blown up

PESHAWAR, May 27: Some miscreants blew up an electricity tower of 132kv transmission line by detonating four bombs in Shabqadar, Charsadda district, near Mardan Koroona on Monday night, said a Peshawar Electricity Supply Corporation (Pesco) press release on Tuesday.

The sabotage is the result of the ongoing tussle between residents of 27 villages of Shabqadar with Pesco. The villagers claimed that they were tribal people and therefore were refusing to pay electricity charges as the practice was in vogue in the tribal belt.

They said that they were part of the adjacent Mohmand Agency and not of Charsadda district, but the government had rejected their claim. As a result of the controversy, some miscreants were creating problems for Pesco by blowing up main transmission lines.

Soon after receiving news about the incident, the Pesco staffers rushed to the site and made arrangements for supplying electricity to the affected areas through alternative arrangements. Shabqadar, Ghalanai and Lakrai in Mohmand Agency were affected, whereas, seven feeders of Shabqadar were not operating.—APP
