SUKKUR, May 27: Sindh minister for education Irfanullah Marwat has said that vacant posts in the education department will be filled after July 1 and the process will begin with the recruitment of women teachers in rural areas.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Public service delivery in education sector’ at Public School here on Tuesday, he said that the provincial government was spending Rs19 billion in education sector, including Rs450 million school management committees funds, for raising standard of education.

He, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of his department, saying that despite huge spending, tangible results were not being achieved.

he said that Rs430 million was given away for 3,200 school management committees to ensure public participation in running the government schools in a better way but deplored that the results were very poor.

The minister said that 1,834 buildings for schools and 14 for colleges were built but they could not be used due to lack of the approval of operational funds.

The education minister said that his priorities were checking absenteeism of teaching staff, holding teachers’ training programmes, promoting the trend of public-private partnership in education sector and increasing the enrolment of girls in educational institutions.

He warned that he would not tolerate blackmailing by the teachers’ associations and those who lacked discipline, would have to go home.

He said that in a Karachi meeting on Monday the pending cases of promotions, transfers, postings in the education department were decided or disposed of.
